Mussels are North Kerala’s own pride. Called Kallummakkaaya, which translates to “Fruit on rocks” gives you a general idea of how they are harvested and what it tastes like. Although not readily available through the central and southern districts, mussels are hugely popular in local market. In heavy demand, the hardest part is to clean them off their shells. Once that’s done, you can either choose your fillings before frying or fry with basic marination or opt for curry or pickle. Whichever you try, the results are guaranteed to blow your mind. And we are not even exaggerating!
